The best fashion documentary I have seen to date is Loic Prigent’s “Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton” (ok wait, Matt Tyrnauer’s “The Last Emporer” on Valentino is tied as my favorite fashion documentary of all time) You can watch it on Netflix or stream most of it off youtube. I’m excited to hear that Prigent is coming out with another one: “The Day Before” where he tracks four design houses — Proenza Schouler, Sonia Rykiel, Fendi, and Jean Paul Gaultier — in the 36 hours before their Fall 2009 ready-to-wear shows, with the exception of Gaultier, who is captured before his Fall 2009 couture show. I think I get such a kick out of fashion designers because of their egos and the drama and…the clothes aren’t bad to look at. I think I might have blogged about this before but in case I didn’t, check out the clip below and keep your eyes peeled for “The Day Before” which will air on the Sundance Channel as a five-part series.
